2023 Igbo Presidency: When And How Not To Reward Political Rebellion.

Some time in July 2018, Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), said that 2019 will determine the future of the Igbo people and APC would support the region when the need arises. He called for their support in the reelection of President Buhari which they collectively rejected. Ohaneze and notable Igbo leaders issued statements that Igbos want restructuring, not presidency. It was called a propaganda and a scam and those who dare to believe the offer were referred as not being true sons of the soil. IPOB members said Biafra or death insisting that there will be no election in Biafra land and Nigeria will burn to ashes without a referendum. Most of us saw no wisdom in the total rejection of that offer. Getting a president of Igbo extraction won't be a bad idea for Nigeria. I personally believe that an Igbo president will help restore Nigeria lost glory to a very large extent. But the realities of today's permutation is a clear indication that 2023 will be practically impossible for the South East no matter who wins in 2019.
I have read so many reactions on Mr. Raji Fashola's statement that electing Buhari will return power to the Southwest in 2023. As usual, unnecessary emotions took the front seat. Loyalty is a wonderful human quality and a necessary political one. It comes with very tangible rewards. No one rewards rebellion especially when the South East rejected APC and termed the party as an "ABOMINATION IN IGBO LAND". Unfortunately, the South East has been unlucky as their own 100% loyalty for good 16 years was taken for granted. What did they get in return; no major infrastructure and a mere VP slot in 2019 for the purpose of getting more votes from them. The era of using the 2nd Niger bridge is gone. Now it's restructuring that is driving them to political obscurity. It is so sad that the South East have not been able to articulate what they really want even the choice of Obi is not settled yet among political gladiators. If the APC as a party decide to give 2023 presidency to the South West after the South East rejected it, then PDP, KOWA party, SDP and other political parties can present someone from the South East to fly their flag. Must it be from APC? Mr. Raji Fashola has passed a message to his people in the South West and I think they got his message. Why vilify him. Politics is interest and strategic alliance most especially in a heterogeneous clime like Nigeria. Dose it make any sense asking for Igbo presidency in 2023 and at the same time Atikulating? It's an impossible mission as I kept wondering how they will marry the two together. Politics is a game and victory is never delivered on a platter of gold. You must work hard and strategize just like others are doing. No one delivers political positions to you because you have cried for so long. The South East should brace up and always think ahead of their political future. There are consequences for every action. 2019 is indeed pregnant and delivery will once again open a new political chapter for the South East. Ikerionwu Nnaemeka writes from Lagos. Anambara State And The Charles Chukwuma Soludo Template

The template Professor Chukwuma Soludo is bringing to the table in Anambara is fantastic if implementable. But it will definitely be a hard nut to crack. As a professor of Economics, Prof knows that there is a political angel to governance and not everyone is master in this regard. If you are a student of politics, you should be conversant with the word "Realpolitiks" It's German term meaning "the politics of reality." The term is used to describe tough and engaging power politics with no room for idealism or any form of moral or ideological considerations. Not many politicians are masters in this field. The question is; can Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo wriggle and flounder through the muddy waters of hardcore politics. Former Lagos state governor Ambode comes to mind. This interplay between the Political Ideal and Reality is the major reason why politicians and political parties fail to fulfil their campaign promises. Remember that politicians all over t...

Nigeria First World Cup Match in Russia, The Mocking of a Great Nation and Bitterness Taken Too Far.

Can't we have some moments of fun just like many other countries of the world? Is foolishness only resident in the Nigerian youths? Must we use every single thing to show bitterness, exhibit our youthful exuberance and then play politics to show how much we hate our nation or the person (s) at the helm of affairs. It's really getting too nasty for my liking. Nigeria is not the only nation that lost their first game in the ongoing World Cup in Russia and not the only country to have done so since the inception of the World Cup. Rejoicing and making merry that your country lost and insulting the person of your president is not only shameful, but despicable, contemptible, atrocious, disgusting, iniquitous, diabolical, criminal and politics of bitterness taken too far. Losing the first game of the tournament could be fatal, but not that it's over. In the past World Cups, many teams lost their opening games and still made it to the second round. I remember that Ghana in 2006,...

When China executed 26 of her corrupt officials.

China is world's leading executioner. No mercy. The history of the  death penalty in China, is deeply rooted, dating back thousands of years. Political philosopher Shang Yang (390-338 BCE) was among the founders of Chinese legalism, a classical school of thought, and known for advocating a stronger judicial system. China still practice it till today. Research by Amnesty International in 2010, 23 countries use death penalty for different crimes including the United states. People and nations have argued that the method is cruel and inhumane regardless of the crime committed. Here In Nigeria, many people are advocating death penalty for corrupt government officials for the pains they have inflicted on the masses. However, it should be noted at the same time that there is only one issue that can be used as a litmus test for humanism and that is the death penalty. Do you want this in Nigeria to check corruption and corrupt officials?
